ITV News visit

Every day is a little bit different here at Bramble Farm Turkeys, but visits from television production companies are not often in a farmer’s diary.

Recently, our Surrey Hills farm enjoyed five minutes of fame as we welcomed ITV News to the West Horsley countryside.

As summer began to turn to autumn, their news team joined Adrian and Sarah for a tour of the paddocks and barns to discuss the challenges British farmers are facing and to meet our turkeys.

They were particularly keen to know about how we’re getting creative with Christmas this year, as well as how people can help to support small family farms and local producers like ourselves.

What are you doing differently this Christmas?

Obviously, any pandemic restrictions will reduce the number of people who are able to gather together during the festive season. So, as subscribers to the Bramble Farm newsletter will already know, we have chosen to rear a few less birds than we usually would. It’s always a balancing act and it was a decision we had to make as the country was two weeks into lockdown to order our chicks, as our slow-grown turkeys arrive as one-day old chicks in July.

As well as the practical decisions such as numbers, we’ve also tried to be a little more creative this year. We ran a limited cut up service offer in August, for people ordering whole turkeys, and we also have an upcoming project with Ruth’s Little Kitchen and Local Food Britain.

The intention of the latter project is to further showcase the true versatility of turkey meat. It’s not just for Christmas Day, after all.

What are frequently asked questions?

People often ask us whether they should order a full turkey or smaller joints and, while we truly believe that cooking the whole bird produces the best results, we appreciate people need a little bit of flexibility at this unusual time.

We know the idea of cooking a full turkey might be a daunting proposition if family numbers are limited, but you’ll be able to enjoy your traditional turkey with all the trimmings on Christmas Day - and then try a variety of delicious turkey-based meals in the following days or months if you freeze it!

What next?

Suffice to say, we’ll be sharing more about that soon along with some tried and tasted recipes - after we’ve recovered from our five minutes of primetime news fame.

As for appearing in front of the cameras? Hollywood, it’s fair to say, has nothing to worry about just yet, although you’ll often find farmer Adrian sharing snippets of farm life on our Instagram feed, and we’re always open to suggestions!

How to order your Bramble Farm Turkey

Reserve your free-range Bramble Farm Turkey at www.bramblefarm.co.uk/order-online. Numbers are limited this year, so we advise getting your orders in as early as possible.
